How houseplants and meditation work together
Houseplants have been shown to have a number of positive effects on our health and well-being. They can help to improve air quality, reduce stress, and boost our mood. Additionally, incorporating houseplants into our meditation practice can help us to create a more serene and relaxing environment.
How houseplants can improve our health
  • Improved air quality
Houseplants can help to improve air quality by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. This can be especially beneficial for people who live in polluted areas or who spend a lot of time indoors.
  • Reduced stress
Studies have shown that interacting with plants can help to reduce stress levels. This is likely due to the fact that plants release phytoncides, which are chemicals that have calming and relaxing effects.
  • Boosted mood
Studies have also shown that being around plants can boost our mood. This is likely due to the fact that plants help to create a more positive and inviting environment.
How houseplants can enhance meditation
  • Create a serene environment
Incorporating houseplants into our meditation space can help to create a more serene and relaxing environment. This can help us to focus on our meditation practice and to achieve a deeper state of relaxation.
  • Connect with nature
Being around plants can help us to connect with nature. This can be especially beneficial for people who live in urban areas or who spend a lot of time indoors.
  • Reduce stress
As mentioned above, interacting with plants can help to reduce stress levels. This is especially beneficial for people who are new to meditation or who find it difficult to relax.
  • Improve focus
Studies have shown that being around plants can help to improve our focus and concentration. This can be beneficial for people who have difficulty staying focused during meditation.

Here are some of our favorite houseplants for meditation:

- Jade plant (Crassula) is a symbol of happiness, invites luck and attracts positive vibes.

- Lucky Bamboo (Dracaena) typically available in water is a fast grower symbolizing your ability to outgrow your obstacles and thrive.

- Peace Lily. Aptly name for it's ability to adjust to almost any environment and put out a peaceful vibe with lush green foliage.

- Parlor Palm (chamaedora elegans) absorbs air pollutants and does well in lower light settings making this plant ideal when you want a lush serene setting but wanting to keep your space in softer lighting.

- Snake Plant (Sansevieria sp) is a tough and resilient plant that adapts to sun or shade.   Low maintenance so you can channel your energy to mindfulness.

If you are looking for ways to improve your health and well-being, consider incorporating houseplants into your life. They can make a big difference in your overall health and happiness. And, if you are a meditator, consider adding some plants to your meditation space to create a more serene and relaxing environment.
