To germinate Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia) seeds, remove the orange tuft, soak seeds in warm water for 24–48 hours (optionally nicking the seed coat), and plant 0.5–1 inch deep in moist, well-draining soil.  Germination is slow and can take months.
