Sensitive fern - 4"
The Sensitive Fern (Onoclea sensibilis) is a unique and easily recognizable fern that's native to North America and eastern Asia. It gets its name from its sensitivity to frost – the fronds quickly die back with the first touch of cold weather.
Here's what makes it special:
Appearance:
- Fronds: Bright green, deeply lobed fronds with a distinctive triangular shape. They have a somewhat coarse texture compared to other ferns.
- Fertile Fronds: In late summer, separate fertile fronds appear. These are shorter, upright, and have bead-like structures that contain the spores. These brown, bead-like fronds persist through winter, adding visual interest.
- Size: Typically grows 1 to 3 feet tall.
- Light: bright indirect
- Soil: organic mix
- Water: keep moist. Do not let dry out
- Fertilizer: slow release
